Dear DP Friends, First of all many thanx to ALL of you because you give so fast and so much GREAT and valuable advice. My question is plain and simple. Today it is extremly difficult to find a valuable domain name. Forget about it to find a ONE keyword domain like glas.com, bottle.com or whatever else. I tried to find a valuable domain for a topic/guide that i wanted to develop and i must confess that it is ALSO difficult to find a good domain with TWO keywords. So i thought maybe or maybe not it is a good idea to go one step further and try to register a domain with THREE keywords. Is a domain with 3 keywords like for example italianpastarecipes(.)com ( just an example ) a good idea? Is it easy to compete against an already high ranked similar domain which has only 2 keywords of the above domain ? What i meas is.. can the domain italianpastarecipes(.)com compete against italianpasta(.)com ? Can domain onlineshoppingguide(.) com compete against onlineshopping(.)com ???? The problem is not that i cant find a domain with ONLY TWO keywords. Its just you cant get the keywords that make sense to your topic... so instead of buying a domain with TWO keywords that doesnt sound good maybe i thought better register a domain with THREE keywords. Also you recommend domain names that start with the word MY ? I found that many domain names that start with MY are free to register like mypastarecipe(.)com or mypastarecipes(.)com .... BUT can they compete against pastarecipe(.)com and pastarecipes(.)com which are already well ranked? Of course i dont believe that there is an automatic pilot for success.. i know that it needs content, work, good marketing and good SEO. I would lke to hear your opinnions on this subject. Thanks to all George
IMHO keywords in domain names really only help you out in any significant way on MSN search. For google and yahoo.. it's all about the content/seo/links. MSN of course is trying to overcome this problem - at least I hope I'd go for something that's related to your topic and easy to remember. Maybe even just a catchy made up name.. I mean look at digg or youtube or even google.. If you had read those names before they became popular would you have any idea what they were about?
Its just i want that my domain is EASY to remember for a visitor. i dont count for some SE advantage here. I am thinking to register a 3 keyword domain with related keywords but i dont know if it is the right way to go. What would be better? To register a 2 keyword domain but the keywords would not make sense comparing it to the content of your webiste, OR would it be better to register a THREE keyword domain name which would be related to the content of the website? Of course i will try to snap up small keywords so that the whole domain is not to big. Thanks George
Well - related is better in my opinion. You can try putting a dash inbetween keywords - like "pasta-recipe.com". You might have better luck finding a free domain with dashes inserted. As you stated, the shorter the url the better though.
If it is a good flowing name, yes it is still worthy. Three name sites are typically not worth as much in value so to say because the more characters in a domain name the lower the value is worth. However, I have seen 3 name domain names go for a decent price. If you are looking to use it buisness wise in association with a website, it is going to matter how well you promote the site as to what your outcome is going to be like. I would stay away from dashes because you could essentially end up losing traffic to someone who didn't type or know to type in the dash i.e. pastarcipe.com instead of pasta-recipe.com...
