Domain Names - which extension is better?

    Hello

I've just noticed that a very very new site of mine having the .net extension ranks better on Yahoo than the same site with the .info extension, although that one is already 1 month older.
Does this mean that .net domains are much better than .info ...?

    Thanks!

I wouldn't expect so, is the page content and inbound links exactly the same?

As far as I know a domain extension is not a SEO factor. Possibly your keyword is in the title of your new site and not on the old site, or some other SEo factor is causing this to happen.

Agree with previous posts on this one - the TLD doesn't make any difference in search engine optimisation terms.

.NET might be considered to be more desirable than .INFO, but not for SEO reasons.

Yes, the content is identical and the .net site had only one inbound link (just to keep the first page indexed and get through sandbox until I figure out what to do with it).

    Thanks for your replies.

Of course the .com and .net extentions are more desired.
But guess it depends on what you need it for.
Afterall any website can be promoted with the right dedication.
The .info are good for sites like news, forums in my opinion.

    Identical?

    What about the duplicate filter?

Domain names are only useful for name recognition, which means a LOT, as anybody will agree, no doubt. If you tell someone the name of your site without mentioning the extension, 95% (possibly more) will assume you're talking about a dot-com. That's just the way it is. "dot-com" has become a part of the everyday lexicon. "dot-net" or worst, "dot-info"? Not so much.

I think that if at all possible go for .com, .org and .net are on about the same level.

However if it is a regional specific site go for that extension. Except for the US where no one knows what .us is
