Hello DP, I am the owner of both the singular and plural of a domain name and would like to know which is better to develop on to maximize traffic, value, SEO, etc For example, a search on Google for "ebook" currently returns 94,600,000 results and "ebooks" returns 84,400,000 results. If I was the owner of these 2 words, would it be more beneficial to develop ebook[.]com or ebooks[.]com. Should I use redirects? Also, what if the gap was bigger like 40,000,000 results for singular and 4,000,000 results for plural? Also, my site will have multiple ebooks. What are your thoughts? Singular or Plural?
it depends. between ebook and ebooks I'd choose ebooks. Why? because people are looking for a website which own multiple ebook(s), not just one ebook. Google search result doesn't really matter at all. I hope you get it. Goodluck.
If you have multiple ebooks, then I think it makes sense to have a plural domain. If you had, for example, only one ebook, it wouldn't. It depends on the topic - I don't think we can generally say people don't type plurals as keywords. This is evidenced by the two similar search volumes OP listed.
ah, a question for the ages. it really depends on context. would you rather car.com or cars.com? would you rather chat.com or chats.com?
Ni general rule for that. The rule of thumb is "Go to Google keywords tool and find out which is searched more times , singular or plural. Also consider variations of keywords and keyword phrases. Add them up and you will know which is better"
The user searching ebooks mainly, so I think you go with ebooks. another reason is in google search results both are listed if you search for ebook, you can see ebook and ebooks.
Many people search with singular form. That doesn't matter if you sell multiple e books or only single e book. People still will search by a singular form. You should use your singular domain name for primary business. But don't use REDIRECT!, except you really are sure that your primary domain names will be a buzz on the market. I rather use another domain names (the plural one) for another money making purpose, or maybe as a back support for the primary one (the singular domain). I hope this will help.
You are in the right direction, as ebook and ebooks have two different volumes of traffic. I typically pick the one that has more, only because you have more people looking for that specific plural or singular word. If this is a clean ebook.com, then you will see these volumes. Be sure and add the extra words of your domain name in your string to get the real volumes, to see what you can really expect. One thing to note, ebooks can be searched by both phrases, and ebook will not be searched by the plural search unless it ranks or content and keywording drives the seo. For the Redirects, I put all my domains in now as a 301 redirect to the www version of the name, to pool the page rank to the www version, as well as any domain aliases that I add, this too redirects to the main page, as well as adds that rank if any. For the extra name, such as ebooks.com, I would add it as a domain alias, then somewhere on my site, link it to the name so that it will redirect, link stating ebooks.com and the redirect takes over. This will keep google reminded that the plural is you too, and help you get noticed in a type in. Good luck!
