Which is better domain investment strategy?

    1.Aftermarket Domains
    2.Expired (pre-release) Domains
    3. Pre Market Domains (premium domain names available for register)?

Personally, I like the the idea of Pre-Market domains since most "Aftermarket & Expired domain names are often, overparkerd, overpriced & overrated!!!

Please share your opinion on this thread...............

Its probably best to register a name that will be important. I did that recently and immediately was contacted by an agent.

I concur!!! Most people don't realize that they are still very valuable and brandable domain names available for register. In fact, because of the Lexicon of the english language, new words and lexemes of these words are being added to dictionaries daily.

Here is an example of a few new term.

    1. Outre
    2. Pleonasm

    Domain Names Investment Strategy Tip#1

When looking for valuable domain name suggestions, try to center the keyword root to highly searchable terms with fewer competing web sites. This can be done by figuring out the KEI of your target keyword phrase.

The KEI is a measure of how effective a keyword is for your web site.[/COLOR][/B] The derivation of the formula for KEI is based on three axioms:

    1) The KEI for a keyword should increase if its popularity increases. Popularity is defined as the number present in the "Count" column of WordTracker. This axiom is self-explanatory.

    2) The KEI for a keyword should decrease if it becomes more competitive. Competitiveness is defined as the number of sites which a search engine e.g. AltaVista displays when you search for that keyword using exact match search.

Here is the formula for Keyword Effectiveness Index (KEI):

KEI= (P^2/C), i.e. KEI is the square of the popularity of the keyword and divided by its competitiveness.
[P denote the popularity of the keyword and C the competitiveness]

Let's try an example phrase: "domain registration".
The popularity of this phrase is 12,400 monthly searches for this keyword phrase
The competiveness of this phrase is: 8,170,000 competing sites

    Now let's plug-in our formula: KEI=(12,400^2/8,170,000) = .188

In this case, .188% is a terrible keyword value as most excellent KEI's yeild at least .350%. This simply tell us that this keyword is highly competitive and very hard to achieve top page organic rankings.

    FYI,

I would say you could do well in all of the 3 markets if you are good at it. Specialization is the keyword, know your market and your niche and you are a step in front of your competition. Not all of the domains from category 1 and 2 are overpriced it is your job to pick the underpriced.

each and every day 1000's of domains gets expired. mostly rags. Even then there are few gems you have to pick it. However tedious. They are worthy as they are maintained for few years.

As a lot of them is expired competition will be on few domains only. you can grab a lot from that list

AfterMarket and Expired domains requires extra patience and time to spot treasure in the trash. The dividend often pays good.
