Keyword rich domains generally have an advantage over non keyword rich domains.

Do you reckon it's possible to overtake somebody in the SERP for a search of their own domain name? Say the site is called www.ukgolf.com (just an example) do you think it's possible to overtake for a google search of ukgolf or is the domain name too powerful? For example if i do a lot of backlinks with UKGolf as the anchor text?

It is possible, but difficult and not likely. However, if Google (etc) penalizes the domain (such as text-link-ads.com), then yes, the competing domain would definitely do better.

The SERPs are heavily weighted to what is in the domain.

Yeah, definitely is possible, i see some cases of this.. but u do have to work quite hard at it (inbound links, internal optimization - titles, bolds, h1,h2,h3, keyword density, internal links, bla bla bla :))

    It is a big factor.

    Not necessarily in this order:

    1. Domain (including longtail url)
    2. Page Title
    3. Page/site content
    4. Backlinks with related content
    5. Internal linking

It's pretty much as I stated above, in terms of weighting.

It is possible, i have done the same thing many times when i couldn't use a trademark (which was the search term) in the domain:D
