    Hello,
    If i register for example:

www.<mysite>nut.com which will have the same theme as an existing site www.<mysite>net.com what are the Legalities? Can they do anything about it?

    Thanks

Do you mean you would be concentrating on similar content as the other site too?

that's a method often used for domain parking. register a domain with almoust same name as a great website. for example ALL domains like hoogle, joogle, foogle, yoogle or many others like these ones are taken and parked. i think there's no legal problem, but if you'll try to copy original website's content there might appear some problems.

Maybe they would take the domain off you though when they find it if they realise what your doing?

I wouldnt copy any content etc, but it would be a similar business. I was just concerned that they might try and take the hostname if my business was doing well.

Im not sure of the powers they could enforce to be honest, but they may kick up a bit of a fuss if the name is similar, the business is similar and they feel your riding on the success of their name, or begin to overshadow them.

Im not saying thats what you have in mind, just thinking of the potential difficulties that could arise though.

Yeah thats what i thought, i really dont want to get involved in legal action for the sake of a name which means nothing to me yet.

I can understand the temptation, its just maybe more hassle further down the road than you need.

Possible trademark infringement at the very least, especially if there's even a
remote chance users might confuse your upcoming site with a mark holder's.

At the end of the day, it boils down to a question of why you wish to register
    a domain name.
