For some reason I want to make a website to rank well on the term "this cool product". I register 3 domains, thiscoolproduct.com, thiscoolproduct.net and bestthiscoolproduct.com. The word best can be changed out with whatever other word would be relevant to the niche. I build the same number of links to each website. Which website will rank highest for "this cool product", and if you believe thiscoolproduct.com will do best, how will thiscoolproduct.net do compared to bestthiscoolproduct.com? I'm basically wondering if adding a word to a .com domain is the better option for ranking in search engines compared to using a .net domain.
with my own testing adding hypens or words to exact domain matches make it harder to rank. if you have done your keyword research well it might not take much more effort but it will take more effort. obviously that is just me but it seems most other people who do the keyword niche domains seem to be in agreement. I try to avoid keywords if i cant have the exact tld of .com, .net, .org - both for my own work and for client sites
I think thiscoolproduct.com would be better. and thiscoolproduct.net will surely do better than bestthiscoolproduct.com
