Hi all Was going to post in domains but i think more relevant here: How much extra weighting do you get for having keyword on domain name? for instance if your trying to make a site on sausage rolls for instance. If you have susaugerolls.com how much more traffic is that going to get? And does it make a difference in weighting to have sausage-rolls.com so that it reads better? Has anyone experimented? Got any definate info? Thanks
Yes there is a huge advantage to having keywords in your url. All of your links would have your keywords, even the ones that require an official site name or just the url. I don't think it makes much difference if you use a dash or not. Excluding the dash would make your url easier to remember for your visitors.
You get a HUGE HUGE advantage with having the keyword directly in your domain name. Especially without any extras added on. I personally think that is the most important factor of keyword targeting.
There's two things to be considered in creating a domain name. You can either have your keywords on your domain or have a domain that can easily be recalled. It's up to you on what you're prioritizing. It's either you please search engines by having keywords on your domian name or create a brand so your visitors can quickly recall you.
according in my experience keyword on domain name is important and give you great position in search engine, but the content of web must be related and have enough keyword density on content. and if possible give title same with the domain name, meta keywords and description contain that domain name too.. thats just my experience,
thanks for the info. Another thought.. so say for instance the same keyword (sausage roll for example). Does it make muh weighting difference if you have other keyords in the domain..so (sausagerollmaker dot com) or (eatsausaugerollsfordinner dot com) Obviously there is a branding/remembering the name issue. But does this matter in terms of keyword optimisation?
I disagree with everyone here.. The domain name isn't as important as it is if you are building your Brand.. The title tag carries far more weight as for as the SERP's go.
I agree with Loco.M. Having your keyword in your domain name is an advantage but not essential. It is a big advantage if your domain name is exactly the same as your primary keyword but if your domain name contains many characters in addition to your keyword, then it ceases to be such a great advantage. It isn't worth sweating too much about keywords in domain names if you can't get your first choice of domain name. Remember you can always add your keywords in your page URLs which helps too. We all know a wonderful example of a domain name that contained no keywords at all originally but it is still fairly easy to find in the search engines. The brand became so strong that it became not only a successful keyword but a new word in our dictionary. Google, who else?
