You get total control over your blogs, and need not lose sleep over them being taken down for no fault whatsoever of yours.

Plus, hosting and domain costs are pretty cheap- you can usually get both for $30 or so a year.

Buy domain names, you've pretty much nothing to lose and much to gain.

So many advantages like professionalism, easier to type in, remember and promote and so on.

What's better? Paying under $10 a year to own a domain name and concentrate on promoting the website to gain best possible SERPs or use a free subdomain that can be taken away from you any time, leaving you out of business if provider decides to step away?

    Well it depend on you.
If you are new to blogging.
Then you should give a free domain a try.
After you are good in it,then only buy a domain.
And there is more advantage by having owned domain than using free domain

We dont need to say no more here. Host it yourself and have full control over it. IF you put something up the people dont agree with so what. Do it on a free and your blog is gone.

Why make life difficult unnecessarily? How much is $10 for the domain name and $3 or less for a month of hosting these days? Get yourself a domain name and start your own website, www.wordpress.org is a good place to search for a fast way to get a blog built in less than an hour...

This should not be a criteria when choosing domain registrars/hosting providers.

So what you say is that I should look for the services (Host + Domain) that fit the best for my needs, non matter if I have to deal with one or two company ??

Yes, register your domain with godaddy.com or another reputable registrar. Reason being, if you decide to cancel your account early for any reason you cannot transfer for the first 45 days.. and not only that, some hosts are pricks about releasing domains when you leave.

    No problem, Alber.
My recommendation would be going for a big player when choosing your domain regiatrar and the hosting service provider.

In terms of SEO and promotions, there isnt much of a difference unless you want to sell it.

I prefer to own my own unless its a niche I am not sure will work. Then I try it for free.

If you are just starting out it's better to use a free subdomain. But if you have the chance go and register your own domain name.

I'd go with your own domain name. After all, the costs of a domain name + basic hosting are relatively affordable.
