Can someone who is an expert in domain name SEO guide me on this? I would like to know whether

if I were to buy a domain filled keyword, eg.

    catdogreview.com

and if the plural of the domain

    catdogreviews.com

has been taken by another person, what if I were to do SEO for catdogreview.com, will the traffic be distributed to catdogreviews.com too?

    Thanks.

Yes, I guess that traffic will be distributed provided you are working on the same keywords as catdogreviews.com If you prove yourself quite good in promoting the popular keywords for your site, you can also pull the competitor's site behind.

no, you will not be helping the other site. Google is very specific to domains, so anything you do to your site will benefit only your site.

Definitely, it is not helping other sites to increase their traffic, however, if you work hard on the SEO part, it is possible that traffic of their site gets diverted to your site.

Your SEO work has no direct effect on the other domain.

You won't be helping the other site get traffic but you guys might not rank to far from one another.

Your SEO efforts will be benifiting you alone. However people who type in your name might accidently make typos and find themselves on the other site.
