Hey guys I am brand new to the forums but have been lurking a little bit and have seen a few things in this section that has brought up some questions. One night i went on a domain name buying spree for the hell of it and ended up buying these domains. local-stuff.com stupid-stuff.com deepsocket.com (My favorite due to being half pervy half buisnessy ) I used valuate.com/ to value the domains and only got about 2000 for stupid-stuff and about 1000ish on deepsocket.com and local-stuff.com. After reading a few other topics i head over to urlappraisal.net and got a bigger estimate on local-stuff.com and stupid-stuff.com at about 2500 a piece , then i did deepsocket and it shows a estimate of over 10,000$ So my question is how reliable are theese estimates ? would you say its just dependant on the domains and who is buying ? Also on that note would you say the 3 i have are worth anything what type of offers would you take? Im going to attempt to list these but stupid-stuff.com has got me wanting to actually build a website and see how i fair with traffic and ad revenue, i also heard godaddy does not do great with auctions im not sure if this is true or not.
These are not too reliable, you can use Estibot.com as well but we don't depend on them, value of a domain name can be determined but it has many factors, these factors are: traffic click cost age length extensions etc. A domain name can have value of million dollar for someone at the same time the same domain name may not be valuable for others.
Free appraisal websites are not accurate at all what-so-ever! Do not make the mistake of believing what you see on them. The most accurate of them all is probably Estibot but I wouldn't go by that one either. Purchasing appraisals are also not accurate. You can go with a company like Sedo or Afternic but don't expect to always get whatever the name might appraise for. My suggestion would be to stay away from both free and paid appraisals.
There are many factors if you are going to valuate your domain name. Yes dashes are bad if you are registering a domain name for reselling purposes. Also, the domain name should be short, easy to remember.
Yes I do agree with others domain names with dashes do not carry much value in this market. However it doesn't mean search engines feels the same way. You can use one for yourself and built a site around them. Once a site a earning money and have a traffic, it doesn't matter if there is any dashes in the domain name. Regarding Deepsocket.com, if you can come up with some good business ideas where this domain fits, you can sell it easily on Flippa.com but not at a price you are expecting.
