I am working on launching an e-commerce site! I need help selecting a domain name that will be the most effective from an SEO stand point. I would like to the domain www.buytvset.com (this is not the actual domain but very similar) however it is already owned. I am targeting this domain because two of my main keywords are "tv set" and "buy tv set" and if I understand SEO correctly, having those key words in my domain would give me a HUGE head start! Would using the domain "www.buytvsethere.com" have the same effect as the domain listed above because those key words are still in the domain? Or does having the word "here" in the domain name negate that? if i am alsofocusing on the keywords "buy televisions" and "televisions" would buying and redirecting the domain "buytelevisionshere.com" help for those keywords? If not, what options do I have with that domain? Thank you for the input! Tim Tim
Freaky speaking, there is not good if your domain is too long I will suggest go for shorter domain with the main keyword You might consider ibuytv.com or Ibuytelevisions.com, both of them are Still available
Good thought! TV's are not the actual product that we are selling, it is just a representation so that I can pose the question. With that being said, I REALLY like that suggestion! Now let me go back to my original question about SEO: does having the "i" in the domain negate some of the benefit of having the keyword in the domain name? Thank you! Tim
"I" infront of the domain basically is ignored by search engine, but still can't compare to the exact keyword inside domain. However, it is still much better than adding "here" at the end of the domain name Easy to memorize is always important other than seo
You make a great point. So what I am hearing you say is that the "i" in front will not negate the effect of having the keywords in the domain. However, if there were anyway that I could have the exact keyword in the domain, it would have a much stronger effect. Thank you for directly and clearly answering my question. How about the other keywords and domain ("buy televisions" and "television sets"). Does buying and redirecting those domains do me any good from having those keywords in the redirected domain? Thank you, Tim
Hello, If you want good URL than don't use Number in it, avoid long URL, do not choose generic name like Page1.htm, avoid too much keyword in URL. So kindly keep in mind certain things while choosing URL.
If the domain is new domain without any backlink or content, it wouldn't help much by redirecting them to your main domain.
It's really not essential to have your keyword in the domain name. Your current SEO strategy is a lot more important.
What if I had the opportunity to buy "tvsets.com"? Would that be the best option even though it does not have the word "buy" in it? Tim
You're spending to much time worrying about the name of your domain . Take it from someone with experience, having the keywords in your domain will help you rank faster, but not THAT much faster. It really all comes down to your SEO and marketing skills. As someone said above, you could add the "I" to your domain. However, that changes the 'intent' of your domain. "I buy tvs" is the opposite of "buy tvs online".. which is MUCH more relevant. Make sense? I think that adding an "I" to the beginning of your domain would not be your best option. You really need to do some niche/keyword research. You're jumping into a domain that could take you months to rank and see any type of traffic/sales. Why not target the "lower hanging" keywords with less traffic and use those to generate sales in a 1/3 of the time? Do it like this. 1. Buy "buytvsonline.com" or whatever. 2. Go do some keyword/niche research and find out the keywords people are searching for to buy tvs online. (Go to google and find one of your competitors. Put their website into the google adwords keyword tool and see what keywords it spits out. If you have a budget, you can use SEMRush.com to grab ALL of your competitors organic keywords) 3. Put these keywords into the godaddy bulk domain register tool and see which ones are available. 4. Buy 10~ domains, outsource like 2 articles on each one, and then use those to brand/market "buytvsonline.com" If you would like more information, go to atlmarketing.org and join my mailing list (the one on to the right of the Free Google Places Video I did) and send me an email. I'm having you join my mailing list because it's much easier for me to manage questions, etc in one medium and not on 20 different ones.
How about "tvsets.com"? In my opinion it is an important decision (not just for SEO reasons). Thank you for the input. Tim
tvsets.com too me sounds like a 1980's tv. Does the younger generation call them tvsets anymore? I'm just curious? It's a great brandable domain, just not sure if it's worth spending the money, because it's really not going to change your SEO ranking.. Yes you will rank for "tv sets" over others, but that's about it. You need to drill down into your niche/industry a little more.
Remember I am not selling tvs. That is just a representation of what I am talking about. So are you saying that you would prefer to have the word "buy" in there? Tim
Well, when selling a product online, you need to understand your customers "buying intention". Which keyword would you consider to have more buyer intent? Buy TVs Online or Tv Sets TvSets.com sounds cooler, but "Buy TVs Online" or "Buy tv sets" clearly has more "buyer intention". Does that make sense?
Keep the URL short : Although some places allow you to register a name with up to 63 characters, you have to keep in mind that people need to be able to remember it, and easily type it into their browser. Try to register the shortest name that your customers and visitors will associate with your Website.
