I ahve a domain name that I want to purchase, and the whois shows it expired in May, but I cannot register it... how come?
Who is registrar? I followed a domain like that that was registered through tucows about 2000 or 2001. Finally gave up on getting it but a year or so later picked it up. There are several threads discussing what is supposed to happen. It should be available any day now. Keep watching to snatch it or if you really want it back order. Usually it seems there is about a month period when it is in redemption period, then goes into pending delete phase or some such. Good luck getting it. Shannon
I am not sure who the registrar is, it says domain registrations... It shows: Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK Not sure what that means...
Always lock your domains to keep someone from going in and transferring out from under you. The following appeared on Godaddy NOTICE... November 2004 ICANN Transfer Policy Email We are sending customers an email regarding a new ICANN-enforced domain name transfer policy, effective 11-12-04. It dictates that IF WE RECEIVE A TRANSFER REQUEST (and your domain names are not locked) we must honor the transfer, even if you do not confirm it. You can eliminate ANY chance of your domain names being transferred away without your permission by locking your domains. We lost a domain. Owner was out of town when request came in. Domain was not locked and it was transferred out from under us. Maddening. Shannon
When a domain name expires, the new status will be "REDEMPTIONPERIOD". Then after a maximum og 30 days the status will change to "PENDINGDELETE" or "PENDINGRESTORE" depending of the actions of the owner. This will last for 5-7 days. Then, if the doamin name is deleted, you have to watch it and try to register it as soon as possible. It looks like your domain may be available for registration any day now. Be aware that there are many companies trying to snatch expired domain names, so you have to be quick to get it. Sometimes a domain name is not available for registration in more than a few second before someone automatically registers it... The descriptions of the status' are copied from whois.sc Edited: Well, if the status is REGISTRAR-LOCK there is nothing you can do
Can someone decipher this code for me: REGISTRAR-LOCK: The sponsoring registrar sets this status. The domain can not be modified or deleted. The registrar must remove REGISTRAR-LOCK status to modify the domain. The domain can be renewed. The domain will be included in the zone. Here is the domain information: Registered through: Domain Registrations Domain Name: ****************.com Created on: 31-May-04 Expires on: 31-May-05 Last Updated on: 31-May-04
Well... it means that the previous owner locked the domain. You now need to wait. I have no idea what that "domain registrations" network is, I've never heard of it. The standard for domains to move to the next phase is 45 days, so you need to wait a while. I'd suggest placing a backorder on any registar you have access to.
Would that alert the owner that someone is trying to order it? This domain is very specialized and local... The domain owner is 3000 miles away and would have no interest in the domain. I have done some research, it looks like they purchased the domain as part of a website building company. They have a handful of other geo-targetted domains. Some have expired, others are in the same state as this one. I have registered the .ca regardless...
No, it wouldn't alert him. If he already let his domain expired I doubt he would even care. But don't get your hopes up, it is much easier to think about a new domain and buy it than getting hold of an expired one. There are people that live of this and have special tools that allow them to grab a domain one second after it expires. And then you have the domain auction sites like pool.com or snap.com, which also get hold of expired domains and then put them up in auction. But, it never hurts to place a backorder and see if you are lucky
My registrat lets me backorder, but when I do, it forwards me to pool.com. This domain name is not being sought after by anyone, I am pretty sure. If it were, the .ca would have been taken as we are in Canada.
