Dear All I tried to register a domain name with GODADDY.COM. During the registration process, I was asked to enter my company address and email id. My querries are: 1)I do not own or work for a company. I need the website for personal use. Can I give my residence address instead? 2)GODADDY.COM dissuades users from using free email address from companies like like yahoo, google etc. What other options do I have? Thanks and Regards Sachin Aggarwal
Yes, of course you can use your personal name and residence address and all your residential details. Just make sure it reflects accurately who you are. Well, free email address does not come with any validation to determine if the person is who he say he is. Use the email address which you get from your ISP.
Thank you Eddy2099. Regarding the email address, I need some further clarification. The address alloted by the ISP can change. For example, if I changes the service provider. In that case, will there be a problem? With Regards Sachin Aggarwal
No, that should not be a problem. Just when you know your email address would change, you just update the record of your domain name in GoDaddy and you do fine. Just make sure the email address is current and accessible. In fact, all the details that you submit change be changed in GoDaddy control panel.
Thanks for the information. During the regsitration procedure for domain at GODADDY.COM, various options are offered..some relate to the security of domain name. The large number of options makes it very difficult for a first timer like me get a clear picture. Could you please suggest which options are really required? In addition, I checked for a domain name two days ago. It was available then, but it's gone now. Is it because someone tracks the user enteries on domain search websites and registers those to make more money? Beleive me....the name I wanted was a pretty unusual name...still someone got it just in time!! Thank You Regards Sachin
Godaddy is good at complicating the domain name registration process, that's why I no longer use them. Typically, ignore all the options as far as possible because most of which you probably would not need. If however you do not want your personal information shown to anyone who do a WhoIS on your domain name, the Whois Privacy option may be considered. You can consider using Namecheap.com to register your domain name. They are easier to work with, IMHO.
For this purposes I use my e-mail which I have on Centrum.sk. It's a Slovak freemail provider and even if it's freemail, they always accept it. So, I think you could try using e.g. your t-mobile, orange, cingular e-mail if you have one.
A domain taster could have registered it just to test the marketability of the domain. If it is an unusual name and recieves no traffic, then the domain will probably become available again in the next couple of days.
