Domain name redirecting will affect my SEO ?

I own ps3forumz.com ... and I have a new design coming soon and I`m renaming the website to ps3center.net. I already bought the new domain and I`m just waiting for the design to be finished. Right now www.ps3forumz.com ranks #13 on google for "ps3" search term. If I cancel ps3forumz.com and link the new site to ps3center.net, I will lose all my SEO and I will have to restart again. So I`m thinking of redirecting my old name to ps3center.net. However I would like to know if it will affect my seo in anyway and If I type on google "ps3" will my website still be #13 , but with the new domain name ? And will I keep my Page Rank 5 ??

If you do it properly, your SEO won't be affected. A 301 redirection should work completely fine.

good ol 301 redirect would indeed work but it takes time before the search engines will react to it. I also don't know about passing the PR. It might, if you inform all those who links to www.ps3forumz.com that you're moving to the other domain and would like them to change the link aswell. but that suggestion seems tedious... maybe someone else would like to shed light to this?

    Hi,

I'm having a similar problem at the moment.

Something that has bugged me for ages is that our site doesn't show up in the SERPs when you search for UK results only. This is quite a big issue for us as we only want to target the UK!

For example, on google.co.uk we show up 8th for a key phrase if you select "the web", but if you search for the same key phrase and select "pages from the UK" we are no where to be seen!

We have a hosting company based in USA, so is that simply the reason? I'm already making plans to transfer to a UK server, but will that alone be enough?

Also, our site is registered under both ".com" and ".co.uk" names. Currently the ".co.uk" site re-directs straight to the ".com" site. Is this the best set up to keep?

I have been warned against simply copying the content of the ".com" site accross to the ".co.uk" site, in case it is classed as "duplicate content" by the search engines. Also, all our inbound links point to the .com site which has built up a google PR of 4.

If any one can shed any more light on this topic and suggest the best way to set up both domains I would be very grateful!

    Many thanks,

    Adam
