    Hi all,

I have always been told its best to avoid domains with numbers or - in them, for example

web-site.com or website1.com are not favoured by google is this the case?

The reason why it's best to avoid #s and dashes is because no one really types them in, and therefore, make the domain less valuable. I would definitely buy something like online-games.com if it were available, but nothing like free-chocolate-directory.com.

For development, it doesn't really matter.

    Thanks for speedy response

so if its online promotion only, with no real intention to sell it could be worth doing and not looked down on by google or anything?

Absolutely. If priority is towards search engines, I say go for it. If you're looking to do something big + put a lot of time and effort into the site, I recommend trying to just sit and find a domain that works with you where you can get the:

    1) .com
    2) hyphen
    3) non-hyphen

That's always my recommendation for people who are trying to just really *WOW* and *UNIQUE*... but if you're looking to just create a site and let it be, whatever works. Keyword you plan on targeting in the URL helps, too. :).

    Google doesn't care about dashes.

It's just that if you use dashes, it's more difficult for a visitor to type in the URL.

thanks guys, I thought as much, but it was good to get some other opinions.

I agree that the domains for people to type in are easy with - in them. And I always so far have only ever bought domains without them.

I am guessing that numbers are okay, as long as people can remember to put them in.
