It is always preferred to have your own domain name to show your seriousness with your effort... but it certainly is not a must pre-requisite. Blogging does take a lot of time to get monetised and it is your consistency which would matter the most!

Buy a .com domain for blogspot (not blogsport :) ) But changing the domain of an old site always decreases its traffic for the first few months. It can be a permanent decrease at blogger since you can't redirect your old pages. If the internal pages have some backlinks then the blog can lose its PR as well.

If your blogspot blog has too many pages at google's cache, don't change its domain.

.com and other global TLD's (net, org, info, etc.) have a better chance to receive more traffic from search engines globally.
.name.my looks like a country TLD. If it is correct, then it will have a slight chance to receive more visitors from MY but a great chance to receive less organic traffic from outside MY.

.com is the most popular extension. It is memorable and likely to receive more type-in visitors. However .com has no advantage over other global TLD's in terms of SEO.

I have a few blogs with blogspot domains. I can't remember how old they are. Most probably they are older than 5 years.

    Hello,
There is no way, if you are looking for long-term business development.
Buy domain name. .com .info .biz .net .org that's all.
I sometimes buy .eu for european union targeting.
If you do not have got domain name, you are going to drive your traffic
to your mine domain. How you want to build back links if you have got only subdomain name?
    BUY DOMAIN NAME:)

Few years ago i started with blogspot as well . It was good times :) Were writting financial blog.
But if you are really going to be professional web disigern / seo guy / inet moneymaker your own 2nd tier domain is must have. Well, its only 5$ + , so even no question for this. Free platforms like blogspot is just place for amateurs :)

What do you mean free domains?
Let me tell you that, my Polish domain registar, made a wonderfull discount program.
For few days, they offered domains with .eu for 1,-Polish Zloty. That's mean
$0,33 - almost for free. Of course, one doamin for loyal customer.
But, I have never heard that somebody offered free domain.:)

    Hello Farhanyun91

The only free domain I have heard of is you get one with the purchase
of an Hosting Account. They are so right about having your own Domain,

It sounds to me like you have one of two things going through your head,
First being that you have heard that a blog-spot domain has better SEO and
rank power coming out of the gate than a domain name would, which is true.

The best way to deal with a start up on your site would be to use the
Blogger blogspot domain to point traffic to your main page, on your own domain.

If your main domain is dogbiteme.com
then you would want your Blogger to be
    dogbiteme.blogspot.com

Then when you post to your blog you would place a text link to your main site
which will pass page rank and build your main site.

The second thing is, just like all the rest of us, you need to get started as cheap
as you can. You do know that when you buy a Domain name that where ever you
get it they will place it in parking, which means it will have ads on it until you get
a Hosting account and place your own index page on it. you can get a free hosting
account here www 000webhost com and they do not place any ads on your site.

They also have wordpress in their cpanel where you can put it up for free, so all it will cost
to get this online is the 10 dollar domain name. Hope that helps you.
    To your Future, Raider

    Hi!,
Rider, you explained this topic perfectly.
However, I must say that I never use free hosting.
There always are some limits there, whatever you call it
    bandwitch, files sizes,quantity of pages,etc.etc.
I prefer to pay once a half year for pro account at hosting company and can load 10 independent sites without any limits.
If you want a nice girl, you have to invest in good dinners, flowers, good looking, etc.etc.
    :D
well, some guys are lucky and do not have to...hehe:);)
