    Hey Cashboy,

Welcome to the world of domains.

I suspect that for every domainer on here, you'll have a different answer to your question.

My strategy is to register domains based on goods and services that work in the real world, and then develop them into websites with traffic. Others, however, would take a different course....

I have to ask, though, how do you know that your friend made all this money? Pardon me for suggesting, but he may be stringing you along... Persuade him to come up with his strategy! If he's a good mate, he'll tell you... ;-)

    Mike.

yeah there are lots of domain speculators out there, picking up expired domains, registering new ones (based on real world ideas). For a newbie the best way would be as suggested above, to get a domain based on a topic, build it up and then sell it. Much more likely to get a return that way.

you buy the domain. Make a website for it, top quality content and information/resources. Get the website high up in the search engines for its keywords, increase the pr, get links to the website and in turn get visitors. Thats what i mean by building it up. If you can get it to that stage and prove that its generating money you can generally sell the domain and website for a tidy amount.

Well When the domains expire they go in the aftermarket and you can bid on that domain. If you get lucky and buy a gem from the expired ones then it might sell for $xxxx.

Other thing is to buy it from some other guy and then sell it for high prices. For it you can see DP's buyy and sell domain section in which this thread is right now.

(Not Advertising) And there are also some forums specially dedicated towards domain name buying and selling.
