I recently thought of the perfect name for my future business, and came up with a great domain name to go along with it. What steps do I take if I want to have the rights to a certain domain name? Do I have to buy it, or simply register it before someone else does?

I have no idea how this works, and any information would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

If it's registered, try to buy it. If it's available, well...register it. :)

You may want to be sure that there are no registered trademarks of your future business name at uspto.gov

Click trademarks, search TM database, basic search, and try your business name.

If you register a legal trademark in a domain name, you may face legal trouble in the future. The trademark owner could dispute your domain in court.
