my dad has a freeola account and they have is domain name too: (the whois information is in his name)

They have no information on the website about how to transfer your domains out.

When emailed they said there will be an exit fee, i have read some places that they cannot charge for this, something to do with ICANN policy and that you are free to choose who you want to do buiness with.

This seems wrong of them and a way for them to try and stop people from transferring domains out

Are they allowed to do this, and is there anyway the domain can be transfered out for free.

Would love some help with this, thanks
    Andy

    Do a DNS transfer...

    Do they charge for that?

Alternatevly, do a server side redirect.

I had never heard of a domain exit fee before, but a google search shows that it does exist with some companies.

I did not see any clear answers on whether charging this is legal, but you may want to check ICANN's transfer policy at http://www.icann.org/transfers/

You have received some excellent advice on this matter in the previous posts.

Your predicament highlights the importance, in my view, of using separate companies for registering your domain (always in your name) and for the provision of web hosting. Keep them separate so that YOU have complete control over your affairs.

    Regards
