Hi, I'm annoyed with the way these huge corporations issue out notices as if they own the entire internet. I registered a domain name and then someone starts claiming that "Your use of this mark and domain name is subsequent to the use and registration of the marks by XXXXX, Inc., and is likely to cause confusion, mistake and deception and therefore constitutes trademark infringement under the trademark and unfair trade practices laws." Then I have to give it up. The domain name isn't something that unique. It's something like <topic>zones.org It so happens that some company is operating the name like <topic>zone.com and is sending out those notices. This is going a little too far in my opinion and I wanted to learn more about my options before giving this up. Weeks of effort have gone into building the site and its starting to rank. If someone can provide some help with this, please send me a PM. Your help will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!
There's not enough information here to say anything. Does the company have a registered trademark for something in your domain? I remember back in 1997 I got a notice from a lawyer about a domain. I told them to take me to court. They had a trademark on a name that consisted of two English words and they were a comic book company. I was using the name, which was a registered business name as well, for something completely unrelated. A hypothetical example would be their company being named Smith Enterprises and mine being the same thing. They make comic books; I sell jewlery. Nothing happened. Anyway, many law firms have slaves, I mean legal assistants and associate lawyers (the newbies) to send out form letters like they are going out of style. It's the cheap way to destroy any possible competition. The first thing you need to do is check the trademark and see what its for. (example, what classes) Good Luck
