This has been very debating, although second one has greater branding value.

Well if you are talking in terms of search engines, then my-great-site.com is good coz google will concider it as 3 diffrent words.

But SEO isn't just making your site for search engines & getting to the top.
Its making the site which can earn for you.

So by using mybestsite.com you make it easy for the visiters to remember your site, and they can return to your site more easily!

Allthough my-best-site.com is gud, but most of the times new visitors forgot to add hyphens, then it can land them to a landing page of your competitor, which defnitely you dont want!!!

The first one is easier to remember for branding purposes.

    Buy both.

I prefer without dashes but I think there is a slight advantage to be had using dashes.

However, the advantage will me small and probably not enough to make a significant difference to your SEO efforts. You might want to consider using whichever domain LOOKS nicer to your users. Sometimes dashes do look better though... depends on the domain.

Basically, if you can't get to page #1 without dashes, you won't get there with the dashes either so it's more of an esthetics thing than SEO.

    using a - looks spammy.

Before I knew anything about SEO, I bought 10 domain names using a -. Before launching my sites, I bought another 10 without the - and used them.

Using one - is OK, but you have to think that G hates spam, and might one day consider this as spam so i think domains without a - is better!

I might be worng thou, just my thoughts.

Actually what I was trying to say is I would go without the dashes.

I cant believe this, why give advice if you are only guessing yourself? For SEO and Google, no dashes is no problem they still read the separate words. Without dashes is the better domain of the two. I would NEVER buy a domain with more than one hyphen.

Logically there should not be any difference in a SEO perspective. Google know how to read exampledomain.com as two words also.

I've heard that the urls with dashes are better for SEO.But I'm not sure.
Personally I prefer the domains without dashes. They are easier to remember and type.

-If just one single dash-site.com gets famous, then the value will be boosted for (most) all.

-If you are running a network, people don't have to type in the -, they just click on your links.

IMO, at this time -'s are somewhat bad for re-sell value, and (possibly) uncertain with the search engines.

I don't like domains with - in them. I'd rather do something like del.icio.us if I don't have the possibility of buying the domain without -.

It's harder for users to remember and type your address if it has - in domain.

I think the best way is to take both with "-" and without "-" domain name. Develope the site using the without dash one and use the with dash one as a landing page to get better SEO ranking.

dashed: good for seo purposes, but bad for branding (you can easily forget those dashes when seeing an ad for instance). so it's up to the mission of the site :)

Well, I would certainly go for mygreatsite.com, certainly don't want to loose visitors to mygreatsite.com from my-great-site.com

for me, i would go for the dash site. It's been great for me in term of search engine result. for visitors, they can simply add to favourite. Most visitors wouldn't remember the site in first instance anyways, so they add to favourite.
