Domain name confusion!

OK, so I am trying to get a domain name, at Godaddy. The domain name is already taken..but it states at the bottom that I can "back order" it. Not sure what this means. It also states:
"IF the name you want is already registered, you can still own it! Secure your chance to snap it up when it becomes available!"
What does this mean? Is the name available...or not? If it isn't (which is what it's saying) then why do I have an option to purchase it?

It is not available, but IF the current will not renew it,by preordering, you will be the first one in queue to register it. Hope this helps clear some things.

It does....I sort of gathered as much...but it's the IF that I dont get. So basically the registrar is charging for something that may...or may not become available? Thanks for your answer.

I believe that you will be refunded if the owner renews it.

You're basically hoping that the domain you want isn't on auto-renew by the current owner...but honestly, how many times in life does that ever happen? :)

If it is a domain you really want, use pool or snap - which will almost always beat godaddy.
