Hi folks, hope you can help me. I'm with hostgator and i want to manage a new domainname to an already existing subdomain. I also want the subdomain not to be seen in the adress box on my browser. Can anyone help me? Thx in advance Cees
All add-on domains are called as such because they "add on" to your main domain name. Even though they can be accessed using the subdomain form, no one needs to know about it and if you don't link to it, then chances are that no one will know anyway. Basically, if you don't want it to be seen on your browser, then don't type it in anywhere.
If the subdomain is hosted at Hostgator, then you could just set up redirection for your domain to used a framed redirect to the subdomain, and the subdomain would not show in the address bar. This will work, but is not a great solution. But if your subdomain is NOT at Hostgator and you are thinking to set up a domain at Hostgator that shows what you have at the subdomain, then you are getting hosting you do not need (see above). But if you still want to use Hostgator I think cPanel has a domain redirection option. If not, you can create a framed page that will display your subdomain site on your domain. The last option is that your hosting provider that has the subdomain may be able to point your domain to the subdomain site, but you will have to contact them. I hope this helps.
