Here is a Question I hope you can answer for me... If I want to target a keyword phrase and for example lets target the key word phrase = ( Search Engine Rankings ) My Question is: Which domain name would it be better to buy if Search Engine Rankings was your targeted keyword phrase? searchenginerankings.com or search-engine-rankings.com I was wondering if search engine crawlers would read searchenginerankings as one word or would they read it as three words?
Intruth, in a competitive category neither would be much good. In uncompetitive categories the url does work. Note url not domain. Even if your domain was www.blahblah.com, you can always create a url such as www.blahblah.com/search-engine-etc.html that would have a similar effect.
I think search-engine-rankings.com would be better because some people will link to you using your domain name as the anchor text.
Hi Intruth, The spiders would read it as three words but your better off using the domain name without the hyphens, try not to use more than one hyphen in a domain name as it come across a but spammy to the bots. Regards, EIMG
in the eyes of search engines, both will work just fine but the first one will be good for branding purposes
