Ok to my understanding is that when a domain is registered, it becomes active until the person that registered it lets it expire.

In this case then it goes to a 0-45 expired period, then to 30 day redemption period by like Godaddy or any other domain company I suppose. Then a 5 day pending deletion period.

Please anyone stop me if I'm wrong.

I'm assuming that anytime between the expired period to the pending deletion period the person that registered for the domain can renew it??? And if this is the case when does the backorder thing come into play? Is it after it's deleted?

Thanks for the help guys in advance.

    Gomar,

I've had this happen to me several times (i own over 100 domain names) with several different registrars like Yahoo Domains, DirectNic, GoDaddy, and Blue Razor.

Each registrar has their own version of a redemption period so it will vary. Basically, you must renew your domain name before it expires. Afterwards, it really is fair game for everyone after the redemption periods.

Here is a link to ICANN's registry agreement:

    Hope this helps,

As Artemis answered it's best to renew before it expires, although you can do
so as long as the registrar gives a grace period for it. Once it's in redemption,
the registrar might give you the option to redeem it at a higher price.

When to backorder depends on what phase the domain name is in. However,
it's preferable to do so before it expires as well.

Be advised that Godaddy sends ALL expired domains to TDNam Auction. Even if you backorder one with them, it will still go there and you have to bid like anyone else.

O didn't know that. I backordered from pool and snapnames already since I was recommended them. So after the domain has been expired, do they still get to renew it or when it is expired it goes up for auction.
