Domain I want is gone, what's best alternative?

I was looking for a certian domain that someone has in the .com and .co.uk . I think the same people have half the options as they all re-direct to a forum on the subject that is very popular. The domain has nothing but the keyword I want, but the only options I have are .info and .uk.com .Would it harm me to take one of these, if so which one? Should I go for another domain as close as possible to .com or co.uk

Another quick question is ...Is the only advantage to having a .co.uk or .com name is that it is easier to remember or do google take less of an interest in them and they don't get the same type of results.

The domain and site is important so thanks for any help

it's good if you have the main keyword in site's name because it's better for SEO. Are .net/.org/.us occupied? because they're certainly a good alternative. Else, if you can't find one of these available, just try a combination with another short word:

ex: best<keyword>.com 4<keyword>.com supreme<keyword>.com or something like this.. you'll figure it out. also, if you tell us which keyword it is, i'll search for you a couple of google .com domains that are available

I'll second Nosfer's idea of adding a number or description word to your keyword. Don't rule out using-a-hyphen in your title.

Also, have you tried having two or more keywords in title?

also if your seo is good enough the domain name won't matter. I always try to get my keyword in my domain name though since it helps a bit more IMO.
Sometimes what i like to do is lets say you want the domain widgets.com or .uk and its taken, ill grab widgetsinfo.com or .uk You would be suprised how many domains are available like that.

But again if your seo is good, have good content, some quality links and your keyword is widget then it won't matter if you domain is fffhh33.com you will get results. Remember quality not quantity.

Don't go for the uk.com. It's not a 'real' ICANN recognized domain extension but is a subdomain from the company that owns uk.com

Thanks, the site is a medical theme. I have a book out on my chosen subject and I am pretty well known around the web for my original site which does very well as I write plenty of articles and have loads of links, mainly one way pointing to it, I do very well in google so the seo should be pretty good and there is little competion.

I don't really want to put the keyword on here I am after for pretty obvious reasons. I can though get my keyword with info after it, so www keywordinfo.com would this be better than getting www keyword.info? Again there is littel competion for this keyword as it is a niche medical term. Also would it be better to have www keyword-info.com or all as one word, not a fan of hyphens - in most cases.

    So the options are usu=ing widget.... www widgetsinfo.com , www widgets.info , www widgets-info.com

I will take a few suggestions and then go with the majority, again thanks for the advice.

If you've got only a choice between a .info & uk.com, definately get the .info. The .uk.com sucks, you'll be buying a subdomain off the owner of the domain UK.com

Email the domain owners and ask. Don't pretend to be Sue Peruser though, the intarnet is a powerful tool and a popular 1-word domain probably gets lots of inquiries. So they'll track you down like a registered sex offender in a neighborhood full of rich white kids.

It took me about three minutes to figure out who you were and find your current domain... what's wrong with it?
