    Hello
I was just wondering if any of you has had any experiences with hiring or leasing out your domain name.
A company recently approached me about buying a domain name which I own. I didnt want to (its my family surname) and explained so.
They came back to me and asked if I would consider leasing it to them for a set fee each year.
I had a look around on the net expecting to find loads of resources, but it appears that domain hire is not very common. Just wondering if anyone has any experiences/stories about it.

I had thought about doing this when I first started domaining about 3 years ago. I even set up a site, had pricing plans for month by month rentals, rent to owns, leases and everything. I just didn't have the contracts and I never really got the ball rolling on the whole idea. I know that I have seen some companies, recently, that are offering names for rent but I'm not sure what the whole process involves. I still think it's a pretty good idea though.

Thanks for your opinions everybody. I think there might be a niche out there for a site which would list peoples domain rentals. Businesses rent premises all the time so I'm thinking why wouldnt they lease a relaly nice domain, especially if they are given an automatic right to renew the lease each year.

I think domain renting is the another way forward for domain owners to earn extra cash either per month or annually. Someone also has pointed out why not hire out subdomains on a well established website?

I know people say you can buy a domain name for about $6 or so, but if you want a certain domain and its for hire, would you be tempted to hire it out? :)
