Domain hacks from SEO point of view

    I know a keyword which gets 50 k global monthly searches (exact)

    The keyword is like abcd.ef ,
    I found article on seomoz on which they did some experiment which resulted in a better CTR to the domain hack(abcd.ef) than the "abcdef.com" on adwords , which points out that its brand-able.
    But what about the SEO pov ?
    what are the chances that abcd.ef will be treated as just "abcd" and will not show up for search term "abcdef" .
    I was kind of inactive for a last 1-2 years ,so I have completely lost track regarding the SEO. I tried googling but all discussions were very old .

    Very difficult question, what I would try to answer is:

    if abcd is a word then it would be treated deferentially,

    abcd.ef, ef is extension for any location so of course for that location the ranking would be higher.

    if any other character is added with abcd like abcdef.com then it would treated as new keyword...and it would have higher ranking in the USA as it is on .com extension.
