Domain forwarding and its issue with Google

There is one site in our network, that has a long url. We just got a three letter domain for it that we wish to forward to the long domain, so visitors could just type the shorter url to access the site.

The domain forward gives "200" server status, should it be 301 instead?

Could there be any issues that could rise due to this?

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, it should be a 301. Check this thread for some info on redirecting any page in domain A to domain B.

In other words: they don't care about your search engine optimization.

I wonder why people still work with these redirection services when a real domain name only costs a few $ a year.

What is that supposed to mean?

I have purchased the domain and the redirection services along with it. It was no freebie.
