Domain expired 2 years ago.. still unavailable.

I recently tried registering a domain that expired in 2011, but my registration was rejected. The domain name shows as available during a GoDaddy domain search, but is unavailable after trying to pay.

Has anyone got any answers as to what might be going on here?

Edit: It's a .co.uk domain if that makes any difference.

I have had some issues with godaddy lately where I would try to register a domain, that I know is available but they would ask for something outrageous like $5000 or say the domain isnt available.

I just use another registrar in that case to register the name. Checkout namecheap maybe they will let you register the domain.

GoDaddy throws false positives all the time. Their system may be saying it's available, but it really isn't. To make sure I'd double check the domain at one or two other registrars. DynaDot.com and NameCheap.com both support the .co.uk extension..check it at those sites and try registering through them if it's available.
