Now 3 of the TLDs are taken in domainsite http://www.aspiesforfreedom.com/images/domain.png
    .cn, .bz and .info
None of the other domains got taken on the other registrars.
This looks highly suspicious to me, and I personally will never search on domainsite for a potential domain.

I am surprised as I thought that there was no scam, and it was most likely coincidences. Now I will be very, very cautious in the future about where and how I search.

Possibly that the other TLDs can be bought very cheaply, then dropped if its worthless. There is also the possibility that seeing lesser TLDs being snapped up may influence people to buy a .com quickly. It may create a 'gotta get it quick' feeling that makes people buy.

It will be interesting to see if they are available again tomorrow. I just checked a registrar I have used and it would have allowed me to purchase the .bz extension. This registrar does not register the other two domain extensions.

    Definately weird findings.

I don't think they register them at all, maybe just put a block on registering them through themselves until a human has chacked them and seen if they're worth somthing. This would explain why they're available through the other registrars.

Yes MattUK, that would make sense, it would then not cost them any money either.
I would be interested if anyone else wanted to try their own experiments for a few days and see what results they get.

Just checked availablity of mellymotors on domainsite - it now states that .info only is taken. I would guess that at some point that will be dropped too.

So, this is one you experimented with? Which registrar?
Also, have you had your computer checked for spyware, etc..?

Found this forum while searching around. I work at domainsite.com (I write the software and know everything that happens) and the "conspiracy" that you think you found is not there at all. One way to prove this would be to check for domain names that were not part of your test when CN, BZ, and INFO were showing as not available. You would have seen that other domains were not available as well for those TLD's. This is not due to the company watching your checks and then registering the domains. This is due to connection issues with the registries for those TLD's. Those particular registries have more connection issues than others. That is all. We don't watch checks through our sites and we certainly do not register domains our customers are searching for. Another way to check and make sure the domains were really taken would have been to check the domains at other registrars to see what they say. However, if the problem was at the registry level, like it sometimes is, then all registrars would probably have shown the names as not available.

I feel very strongly that domains enetered into regitsration sites, domain bot sites etc are being recorded and the information is being used for whomever is doing the monitoring be it hackers or the actual company offering the domain search programs. This is NOT beyond the realm of possibility and with a huge amount of greed and decadence in the world today nothing surprises me now. This activity is also linked to the domain kiting I feel.

I hate t bump such an old thread but this issue is still relevant. I went through a similar experience a couple months ago with Godaddy and I thought I was going crazy. They were LLLL.com domains by the way.

I no longer shop and think. It took me a couple of days to purchase a domain for client out of state. Had them suggest a handfull and prioritize from most popular to least popular. When none of them were available, had to get second set. When I found one that would work bought it on spot.

    I suspect that as well.

I know that I have done a few searches that later show as registered.

I also know that I have contacted a registar by phone, and asked for support on a non related question. The tech was able to view my input into their server as I typed under my account.

I also found a TLD that I know was xxxxxx and became available. I went to register it, got confirmation then 4 hours later got notification that the registration failed. Only response was that someone must have registered the domain at the same time... yeah right.

So yes I suspect that as well
