I had payed for one of my domain a premium domain appraisal at Sedo and got nice figure from their staff.

All happy I even payed for featured listing and waited for nice offer but then big dissapointment came.

I didn't get not even 1 offer for this domain and most of the time when I looked their feature listing my domain was never in top 70 (let alone on their mainpage).

What I'm trying to say is - how can you know this all domain appraisal is not just a scam to get money from you since value of domain only depends on potential real buyer and not from a virtual value.

In the end, the price of the domain will be determined by the buyer. Not everyone can afford the actually value of the domain.

Exactly, that is what i'm trying to say in several posts about appraisals
Appraisal is just a way to discuss your name not to get a price that you will lock it and not sell it up or down from this price

I had also a premium appraisal at sedo and their report was based on previous sales data to bring you with the estimated amount
However previous sales are not always blind sales (seller see the name in sedo and make an offer), in most of them the seller approach the buyer and try to convince him for the value of his name or the other way around. Put it featured and pay for appraisals is not a sure way to sell

Only the super premium names can do that and if you had one of these you wouldn't move a finger

Domaining business is MUCH harder than it looks

Because the market over there is overly saturated. Competition is tough enough.

If you yourself accept that the value of domain only depends on potential real buyer and not from a virtual value. Then it might be your mistake to even get it appraised for money, the first time.

Domain name appraisals are not intended to be scams but many are. There is no established value for allot of what happens in the domain world and therefore it is difficult to take a past sales and compare them. Real Estate is very simple compared to this business because it is la ocal, fixed market area. Domains are global without any boundaries. Your name might not have any value to an English appraiser but it might mean allot to a German buyer. I bought appraisals when I first got into domaining also, hoping they would help but they do not. I would recommend saving your money and seeking appraisals in forums or others places such as this, there is bound to be at least one honest person. Also, as previous posters have mention any property or domain is only worth what a buyer will pay for it. Cheers,

I would never waste my money with a paid appraisal, as they are usually useless, just a money maker for the company
