Domain and subdomains

    Hi everybody !

I am starting to add backlinks to a new website. The main www site has also a subdomain for the forums, as forums.domain.com.

I would like to ask if i must link the main web site or add also the subdomain. Does google (and other se) automatically understand subdomains ? Or i must do a separate combat about it ?

    Thanks

separate combat...google treats them as entirely different sites...

Yes they treat them as separate entities.

if so, then it is better to have www.domain.com/forums instead of a subdomain. I mean for the search engines, since technically it is better to be separated pools.
