I have heard it is important, but I wouldn't ditch backlinks because you have an old domain name, a good mix is what you need.
Yes I agree with you. There are some websites that old enough, but it is not the most factor that cause that website friendly with Google. I like say this is most caused by ore back links that owned these websites. I can said like this because I also find there is old website which didn't has goog view in it's alexa. Benefits of higher page rank and the way to icrease
I think one of most imporatn factor Google takes into account when ranking websites is keywords included in domain name, I know one .com domain, that has no almost backlinks, nevertheless it took top positions!
The domain age is deemed to give the site a sense of trust and allows google to separate it from newly created domains.
I have several old domains and I can't say that they rank better in the serps than my new ones. The old ones are more stable, while the new domains often jump around in the serps.
older domains deserve a bit more ranking, in time, new domains will age and get better too, but a brand new domains shouldn't be ranking high or getting high pr in 3 months, that is just stupid of google
I can't prove it, but I've heard it speculated often that how far ahead your domain registration is paid also earns some love from the search engines. Again, I can't prove it, but it makes sense, because a domain registered for years in advance is obviously not a "quick buck" website. That at least gives a hint that the website is on the internet for serious purposes.
That comes directly from the google patent. "Certain signals may be used to distinguish between illegitimate and legitimate domains. For example, domains can be renewed up to a period of 10 years. Valuable (legitimate) domains are often paid for several years in advance, while doorway (illegitimate) domains rarely are used for more than a year. Therefore, the date when a domain expires in the future can be used as a factor in predicting the legitimacy of a domain and, thus, the documents associated therewith." I realize that just because it is in their patent, it doesn't mean it is currently being used. From my own experimentation, I think that if there is any benefit in registering a domain for 10 years, it is a small factor in the overall algorithm. FWIW, I didn't see any benefit with a couple of domains I experimented with.
Yea domain age also matters in google rankings but don't just sit idle and waiting for the traffic because for quick rankings updating the site/blog is also compulsory. Do some offpage and give more stress on the keyword selection because if you track a wrong keyword which is no where in the searches this may be useless efforts..
An old domain will rank better. I aquired a client with a 1993 website and a PR5. The website wasn't exceptionally optimised yet a few links built into the site and it hit the top three for the majority of it's keywords within a month. I have a PR4 client witha domain registered in Dec 2007 and although links have been built and it is very well optimised, the age plays a huge factor. One week it will be ranked 3rd,4th,5th another it's down at 30th.
Thats something really illustrative. So your advice to attract traffic is to purchase an old domain with a good pr n then work on it, instead of buying a new one, is it right?
