Domain Age factor in SERP calculation

I have a 6 month-old PR 2 site currently ranking between 40's and 60's for a few keywords. I recently ran domain ranking tool and found out the G Top 10 domains were registered before 2002. In terms of BLs, I'm still behind them.

If I keep building links, I wonder how long will it take to beat the Age factor and get to 1st page? Or it is a Mission Impossible?

I do have another newly bought 2002-registered domain with no BLs. Should I put the effort on 2002 domain and start from scratch now? Will it be faster to move to 1st page than the 6 month-old domain?

No, it's not impossible, but it is just harder. With a 6 month domain, you should be out of the sandbox already. Having about 30%-40% more backlinks then the Top 10 domains would over come their age factor.

lol thats what i tell people but some just dont seem to listen lol

a 10 yr old domain with 10k backlinks can be beaten even with a 2 month old domain with 50k backlinks, assuming you know how to get those backlinks and what anchors to use

Thanks for the suggestion and comments.

I heard G loves Quality BLs rather than BL Quantity, i.e. Authority site. But Y still loves large numbers of BL. Is that true? Should I purchase more dir submission packages to build BL?

Yes that is true. Google tends to discount large number of backlinks only giving credit for selective few quality backlinks, though yahoo will count them all.
