Hello yall! I'm very new to domains! Ouch.. That sounds weird while i say it. Actually, ofcourse i know if you want a niche and you want to sell i don't know let's say hot chocolate and you can get hotchocolate.com or something is will be great. Now, that's actually not my question. I was looking around a bit just to explore some new markets. Now i did find some simple domain names which sounded pretty well. Now, for example, i found a 9 year old domain free for registering. Its a .org domain. Though, almost all domains are ready to get registered excapt the .com and .net. Now is this any good to register it? It is actually 9 years old.. Is that worth any or is it crap? Thnx!
You should look into the history of the domain so far, including how much traffic its currently getting, check out its alexa rankings etc etc, a 9 year old domain is no better than a new domain if it doesn't have good backlinks or traffic
Right, it also makes a difference where you buy it too. If it's a dropped domain name, versus buying it through a backorder at a place like NameJet. The fact that the .COM and .NET are already registered implies that the keywords in the domain might be valuable. Here are a few other tips for you to keep in mind if you decide to register it: - only use the exact match search volume (from the Google Keyword Tool) to estimate the potential traffic of the keywords. For broad match, which is the default, the numbers may be high, but completely unrelated to the actual exact match. - If you're going for an SEO site to earn money with, try targeting something in the range of 500 to 3000 exact match search volume. That's something that you could rank for strongly within half a year or so, and which would bring you results fast. Higher than that, you might face too strong competition to start with. - be careful about registering any domain that includes a brand name in it. For example, don't register nestlehotchocolate.org. People often search for brand names, so the CPC and search volume for those keywords are high. But the trouble is that the brand owner can just easily file a UDRP claim against you and take that domain from you. This usually only happens after you've worked so hard to get it ranked in the search engines, and then they notice you.
Heya! Thanks for the tips. Now, i found a .com domain. A word but just 12 searches a month ( exact ). Now though, the domain is 5 Years old and has a Alexa Ranking of 489.000 is that something worth it? Thnx again!
I'd ignore the Alexa rank. If you have Alexa installed on your PC, and you visit your site every day, you'll get an Alexa rank of 500,000 or so. If the Alexa rank is lower than 100,000, then it's more worth paying attention to. 12 exact match is so low, that it would barely generate any traffic, even if you ranked #1 for the keyword. Even if you reach the #1 rank, you won't get the full number of visits for the keyword as the exact match search number ... maybe 30 to 40% of that number if you really do get the top rank. Some other factors to keep in mind about the value of a domain: - the fewer words the better. If it's a 1 word domain, it's going to be much more valuable than a 3 word domain (football.com > watchfootballlive.com ) - the more exactly a domain describes a thing, the better. Sometimes a keyword string is just perfect ... other times, there's an extra S, or some weird phrasing that just ruins the domain for a potential end user buyer. If you're interested in exact match type domains that you can register immediately, you can check out this list of dropped domains: http://genericdomainfinder.com/droppeddomains
You mean registering to buy or you would register again the 9 year domain which is deleted. If you would register the 9 year old domain which is deleted would be not much beneficial as it would have lost all the google rankings and other etc.
The domain age hardly gives you any advantage in ranking IF there hasnt been a site on it for the most of the 9 years check with web archive if there are any records prior to purchasing
Your question doesn't make sense. How can it be a 9yr old domain that is free for registering??? If it's free, it's 0 days old! Anyway, how can we advise you in if a name is worth registering even if the name is 9 yrs old? Who cares about the age, what matters is the QUALITY of the name.
It would be great but you need to make sure the domain do not have any bad record like Blacklist, Google Sandbox, or been banned by certain countries or search engines. check all the previous backlink it have and the Page Rank as well. It would be best if the domain come with keyword. If it do not bring any keyword or meaning or shortform , then it will not worth to paid for it.
