which currency to use for a site.. like the MDHP I am based in the UK, however I would like to use £GBP instead of US$... would this put off US based companies/individuals from purchasing or would they not care? are US$'s the best bet as it has been proved to work already? which would you prefer?
I can't speak for everyone but I don't do £ ...I'd move on with a quickness. It all depends on who your target market is. Use the currency that the residents of your target market uses. Or you could also use a cart that allows both.
thanks Fryman, WebWriter, I was going to say how about I display both... but i think it will have to be US$. that was short and sweet. any passing mod can delete this thread now.tnx.
he he... give it some time to hear some comments from everyone else... I like WebWriter's idea, show prices in dollars, and have some easy way to let your visitor change them to pounds. Don't know if that would be possible, but an interesting idea.
Im also based in UK and target UK traffic on two of my websites but charge in $ unless im selling something on ebay. Its just it seems like the universal net currency.
I think this is a problem area. Example:- My sites run both Amazon.com $(dollars) along side Amazon.co.uk £(pounds) using the same keywords/content/search tags so that books are often shown in both currencies. For Amazon that's particularly relevant as I understand that commissions are not paid if visitors 'skip-out' to alternate Amazon-country-sites using their internal links and subsequently buy from an Amazon company you are not advertising. As most users are currently from the USA it makes sense to advertise in US $(dollars), however UK visitors will buy in £(pounds) and possibly in Euros occasionally. If you are trying to sell globally, give all three equal weight.
They do, but 'appearance is everything' when it comes to money. Not everybody knows or buys through paypal.
It depends on your target audience. Those in the UK and Europe would have no problems with pounds, but for Americans and rest of the world I would recommend dollars. You could also do a link to one of the many currency converters available so that your audience could do a quick calculation.
