Doing this will affect my rankings?

    If I replace this description with some banner.. will it affect my rankings

    Yes, since the banner will be an Image, the SEs will lose out on the text.

    be careful - always stay ethical. I would distort the text a little in case the search engines implement new tactics.

    how can you change the description with a banner given that meta description is a tag and only text can be used

    Yes because spiders will not be able to read from your banner unless you put alt tag for it. Even then, I think it will carry less weight compared to just having some simple description text.

    You can change.. But don't forget to use the alt tag in your image link..

    They look like keywords to me, your description should be two sentences.
