Doing something interesting with a directory?

I do believe I am the first directory owner to offer the model employed at Strongest Brands:

• There is no adsense or other advertising
• There are no featured listings
• There are no sponsored listings
• Submissions are processed in the order they are submitted
• Free submissions accepted, but sites are sorted according to a "Strength Rank" (SR) which loosely corresponds to how much a company has paid towards their listing
• Companies can make payments to boost their SR at any time (and repeatedly)
• Up to 3 deep links allowed in the description to help encourage thoughtful submissions and value for keeping the listing well positioned

But is it completely unique? Different from any other highly modded directory? I can see a few screenshots and some statistics common with other directories.

I know I'm being a pain, but DirectorySpy focuses on unique directories.

 

The template is the main thing.Unique!mods on the submission gives you a preview of what your link will look like.

I would like to submit my site for consideration for your blog.

My directory Crafty Tips Arts & Crafts Directory is quite different.

The biggest feature of the site is the craft-related tips. Each site, along with the typical description, link and details page gets listed with a tip they submit.

This was done to make the site unique and to hopefully make it a true resource for both the submittors and site visitors.

Each site is also accompanied by a product picture. Anyone who submits their site will also have one of their finished items displayed with the listing. Sites I find and add myself will have the standard screen shots; unless they give permission to use a picture from their site.

If you visit the site, while there's the standard featured listing option; there are a couple of other advertising options I believe are truly unique to the site.

Also, the template has been modified to the point the template designer didn't recognize it.

I would be honored to be included as one of your reviewed sites.

 

I'll add this one to the list as a possible one to review. I want to look at this one in more detail before I write about it.

I really like this directory - full of content! I'll add it to the to-do list.

I think you need to make it more clear what you want. You say above "I'm looking for interesting concepts, templates, services and mods relating to directories." yet I propose a unique template with loads of unique mods on a PHPLD and you reject it.

I can see a few screenshots and some statistics common with other directories." you say.Well............yes it is and if you took your time and had a look around it you will not see a better diectory running on the PHPLD script.
And as for the admin features ........well you will never know now.
I would go and have a look at this blog of yours but the site is down.
Perhaps you should be more clear in what you want.

 

Forget the old directory model - think distributed directory. What is a Distributed Directory? A network of sites that gives you contextually relevant links embedded in content - content that you create with deep links to the internal pages that you need. How is that for unique? Take a look at my signature for more info.

 

I don't know if this is unique, but my directory combines articles and websites into the same pages. The website directory is not separate from the article directory. The hope is that traffic from visitors there to read the articles will also see the websites on the same pages and click some, that way webmasters can get traffic not just a backlink. Again, I don't know if this is all that unique. I can't add live links yet so here it is ( directory.proud-collector.com )

 

I find it really similar to DirectoryDump so only one of them is unique.

 

The template most MODs belongs to MKInfo now.

DirectoryDump is up for *show only* until I re-skin it.
The one stipulation I wanted when selling the template, was to be able to keep it up to showcase it, for reasons of skill, skinning ability, MODs and for the phpLD script itself.

Therefore, his directory is Unique, as its a one of a kind *Live* directory.
I will be adding more to it soon too.

If LittleEarner would like some info on a few of the MODs that are in there, he can take reference to this extra page
