Hi all, I'm doing a small market research because I'm thinking of bringing my xhtml/css service (and webdesign as well, next time) to a next level soon, in maybe another half a year to a year's time, I hope. I'm just wondering, because xhtml/css services can be gotten for as low as $15 here in DP, yet on the otherhand services in websites like https://w3-markup.com/ charges much more expensive (maybe at least 10x more, considering the longer turnaround time). For example, it costs $169 for to get a xhtml/css service with a 7 day turnaround time in that site. The only good thing about it is that it already has its reputation built for good quality and reliability (because of its organized contents), so people are willing to spend extra money to get their reliable service. So if I'm starting a new website for that kind of business, what do you think should be my average charges and my average turnaround time? :l'' is $120 usd for a 4 day turnaround time good quality work, too much for the average public? (I know people here in DP are smart so yeh, DP ppl will probably come to DP to find cheap codings. )
Its completely depends on the customer who needs the website to be created. If they want cheap service and they will go the cheap provider. If they want the professional & realibe service ofcourse they will go for professional one. If you would like to hold up all type of customers, you should be in a position to provide services, which will make the customer happy as well you by fulfilling the customers need. You can quote customers as per their requirements, you can't give benchmark for these kinda services.
The average charge is $99 for the job and the turn around time is 5 day max else you done it for free.
You have to take into consideration your "brand". To get you noticed you should charge as "low" as possible and once you start ranking/getting noticed you can increase your fees. If you provide the exact same service as someone here in DP without a "reputable" name/brand I'd rather pay the $15 fee, but once you have a known brand name than the situation changes and you can start charging pretty much anything (reasonable) as you want.
Thanks for the advice, people. btw, I also thought of 'dynamic charging system' whereby the charge increase/decrease base on the current number of queues. Might be interesting, but I'm not sure if this is feasible. For example, maybe when theres 1-3 clients on the queue, rates are as per normal at cheaper rates (maybe $100 for 4 day turnaround), but if there are already 4 clients in queue, then for the 5th client, maybe a 5/3 (66.7% charge increase) to $166? what do you guys think? :x So maybe with this I can usually charge cheaper when there is low demand (when theres low demand, I wont show the stats to clients), and more when there's a higher demand. :x
