Is this too good to be true? I am posting sig links to my blog on imdb messageboards and they are all showing as DoFollow. Is IMDB a good way to get backlinks?
i guess it is a good link, depending on how you use it, if you can find a movie discussion related somehow to the topic of your website it would be better than just posting ur sig link everywhere in IMDB, plus the links will be credited by google just once per site, so don't over do it. good luck
Is that true about google only crediting once per site? How can that be if google PR ranks pages, not sites?
it doesn't matter if your site is linked to from a site wide of a website which has 10 000 pr5 internal links, you will get credit just once (i am assuming that you will get it from the page which has the most pr), otherwise your website will become pr8 which is obviously not reasonable and not going to happen.
Does that mean I don't have to worry about the competitor that has 728 internal links all with high PR pointing to this one page I'm trying to overtake in the search engine results? Other than the internal links, he has maybe an additional three backlinks to that page.
you don't have to worry about it, get links from as many different websites as you can, and you will outrank him sooner or later
Thanks for the info, it's a huge relief. It's not a very competitive keyword other than this one guy, but it's important to me and should yield some decent visitors. My page hasn't even begun to rank, but then again, it's only like 3 days old. I'm hoping by the end of the month I'll be in a good position to overtake the search engine results.
I also have to question this. Are you sure this is the case? Because my experience has been opposite. I find that it can be from the same domain, but different pages and you are OK. Anyone know for sure?
ok first, i was talking about the case of a sitewide, there is a huge difference between getting 10 000 links from a site wide, and two links on two relevant pages from that site, let's say you have recipes websites, and you get two natural links from another recipes website from two pages, page 1 is about Italian recipes and page two is about french recipes, those two links should be credited and help your rankings for both keywords "Italian recipes" and "french recipes". but if it's a site wide, and if we are talking only about the numerical value of PR, then don't expect your website to become pr7 from 1000 internal pr5 links (note that 1000 pr5 links from 1000 different sites should make your website at least pr7),
Ah, I see what you're saying. But who gives a crap about PR? Search engine traffic is where its at, and in my experience that all comes down to number of links + proper anchor text.
PR is important if you want to exchange links, and that will help you to get traffic.so,PR is important .plus,PR is one of the factors that will help you in the google search results
