With my Myspace site, I make little per click with Adsense. My main cash comes from selling links really.
That's how it should be. A little from here, a little from there. You have no idea how many times I've heard sob stories from webmasters who lost their Adsense account and, at the same time, their entire livelihood. Diversify, diversify, diversify.
The best earning for me is Adsense, Got some from Link sale but well, I'm kinda lazy to advertise that my site is available to sell link, so hmmm.. adsense is the best source.
I don't agree with people who are always pushing for diversification. If you are making good money off the AdSense, why diversify and make less? Are you working 3 jobs because you are afraid that you will lose your high paying one? If you are not doing anything wrong, there is a very small chance that your account will be closed. Of course there is a possibility, just as you can lose your job. It is easy to diversify when you have a big site with lots of traffic, and in that case I am all for diversification! But unfortunately, for majority of small websites it is almost impossible to use anything else, without making less.
100% Adsense from my MFA sites built in the distant past. I'm aiming for a 50/50 Adsense:Chitika with my White Hat sites now.
Wow, I can't believe you just made an anology to diversifying your website's revenue source to "working 3 jobs because you are afraid that you will lose your high paying one". First of all, that anology is sooo wrong I don't know where to begin, but it does prove that you are logically impaired. The correct anology is working ONE job (one website) and getting paid by THREE companies (three revenue stream). I would try to convince you that diversifying your revenue streams is a good thing, but if you can't even grasp the basic idea of diversification, I ain't even gonna bother. Go with God and pray that Adsense never "accidentally" deletes your account from their system.
In my opinion multiple websites with multiple revenue streams is the best way to limit your risks. However you should not be afraid to kill (sell?) a website if it is not performing as expected. It's a bit like running a conglomerate of businesses and you're the guy/girl in charge.
Putting eggs in one basket is not the wisest of things to do, you never know whats going to happen next. I'm selling some space of my VPS to local clients which covers the server costs. Adsense is the biggest source of revenue for my website while Adbrite and paypopup are adding a bit more to my wallet. Havne't tried chitika yet, though I do plan to use chitika on my new websites once I launch them.
It’s not anology, it’s analogy I was not making an analogy, I just used a real life example. For example, person working in a company (thus having one job) and making $50 per hour. Now he is afraid that he might lose this job, so he starts working at another company as well, (now he has two jobs, not one) where he makes only $20 per hour. Now his profit is smaller, because he works less in the high paying company. I used this as comparison because people would NOT do this in real life, but they would do it so easily on their websites. Why???? Just because AdSense MIGHT close their account? You can lose a real job as well, can't you? And don't get so defensive just because I did not agree with you. The easiest thing to say is diversify, diversify, diversify, diversify, diversify, diversify, and I heard it thousands of times. But it does not, and cannot apply to everyone. The more risk you take the more money you will make. Equally, the more you diversify the less money you will make (usually). Is it so hard for you to comprehend that for some websites it might be impossible to diversify without cutting their profit? I am diversifying in some of my websites, if I can match or almost match the money made to what I am making from AdSense. I am doing this only so I can use less AdSense ads, so higher paying ones are showing up. Being always too careful and not taking some risk, will not get you far in life. I am sure that Warren Buffet would be where he is if he was diversifying, diversifying, diversifying... Why would you make your profit smaller, just so you can diversify? People who have tons of traffic, and are able to diversity, will easily switch to different programs if they AdSense account gets closed. Like I said, if you have a lot of traffic, by any means diversify. But if you have small traffic diversification will usually make your profit smaller.
I dont really see the point in looking for something else then adsense. It is not like Google goes around and randomly bans accounts or something. All my income comes from adsense (not that it is that much...)
While that is normally not their intent, There is many things OUT of your control when it comes to publishing on he web and not having steps in place to prevent it. If you anger someone, they can easily sit there for 20 minutes clicking ad after ad...Google doesn't like that, and they will just say "Nope" when they get the popup on someones computer that says "Keep this account?" (The previous was a joke by the way). I agree with JB, you always need more than one plan... Could be as simple as getting accepted into YPN (Applying) should you get banned from Adsense you have something that can step into its place right away. It's a very smart idea and something I am trying to do myself, even though I am very new to this business . Edit: You do everything that you can to increase your money, spend have the effort in securing and protecting it .
Well, thats the reason why the big guys never give their websites i guess. I dont think I need to worry about it yet, with my 2$ a day...
Putting your entire livelihood in the hands of a faceless corporation that sees you as nothing more than a number is beyond foolish. I would wish you luck, but I'm afraid your stubbornness to accept the facts of life (and reality of Internet commerce) will surely doom you to a future thread entitled, "I just got banned from Adsense! I don't know what to do! Help!!!!" Or some such. But it's your life, do as you wish. /shrug
Like Jack has said DIVERSIFY!! and I agree 110% with him. I started a website and over the months it has grown to around 4k uniques a day and all along had ONLY adsense on it and making say $500 a month then I new it was time to look for more sources so I added in 2 more sources of income so I am now getting paid from 3 compains each paying me about $600 a month so $600 x 3 = $1,800 ! I hope this makes sense to some but im certain me and Jack know why this is diversify thing is good
Every source of income, regardless of how long-term it seems is not renewable. Eventually your particular niche will be filled, your particular audience will leave. The true survivors amongst us are the ones who adapt and won't be hit the hardest when one particular income stream dries up.
Think of it as a business where you are relying on only one client, where will you land if the client gets out of business or dies or he gets bankcrupt? As I said earlier, Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Just as Art, Raven & Jack mentioned, It's not always safe to rely on one company for your entire business, diversity is the key.
OT: I wish... Here in Croatia 4$ per hour is considered nice income That is how much I earn working as a student in technical support.... END OF OT p.l.u.r.
now? yes. income (order from low to high) from - sell text link - web hosting service - adsense - regular job!
Geeze i hate when JackBurton is right.. but.. he IS.. DIVERSIVY! i make 99.9% of my earnings from Adsense (about 75% referals, 25% ads), i got into YPN as my backup after reading all the "i got banned for no reason" threads. My total earnings with YPN+CJ+Amazon for the last 3 months is less than $10.
