Does your web site being listed affect the PR of sub pages?

Let's say you had a site called: www.widgets.com

You get it listed in all real good directories. DMOZ Yahoo, BOTW etc.

On www.widgets.com there you have a site that has an in depth menu system with thousands of pages about different widgets.

    so you have
    www.widgets.com/automotive/with-1000-different-HTML-pages-here
    www.widgets.com/household/with-1000-different-HTML-pages-here
    www.widgest.com/radios/with-1000-different-HTML-pages-here

    and so forth.

Would a directory listing on the regular domain www.widgets.com (with a good page ranking) effect the page ranking of each and every "1000 different html pages"?

I ask because I notice if you go deeper into yahoo, the PR drops. If you had a deep site like that would a directory really even help?

    Thanks

From my point of view, getting too deep in a directory is not going to help you.

Just to clarify, in your example, widgets.com is not a directory but a very large site? Right?

Getting links only to the homepage of any website, be it 5 pages or 20,000 pages, is helpful as PR can be spread throughout a website. But, it's when you start getting links to interior pages that you can really see a boost in PR for the internal pages. Read the terms of service on each directory, the way you describe widgets.com, it would seem like it's almost a site full of smaller niche sites - you should be submitting and promoting each of them. Promoting each of the niches (automotive, household, radios) as well as the site as a whole will lead to the best results for PR and traffic.

That said, if your only purpose for directory submission is to get PR, you are really chasing the wrong thing.

If, on the other hand, widgets.com is actually a directory, my answer would be the same.

yes widgets.com would be a homepage of many niches under it, but not a directory itself.

Thanks for the excellent advice, I appreciate it.

The more farther you go away the more dilute your link juice will get and in the end you will end up with nothing to show for your efforts.

PR of any website is considered from the home page of website, variations in submissions can be done through submitting inner pages of site with different keywords
It might end in increased links for your site..!!
