I would expect so since the search engines might think your site is unreliable

You should expect, but will be very minimal if it is for a short duration - say upto 1 day.

Yes, you'll notice a drop, maybe even being deindexed altogether. If you get your sites back up and they get indexed again they should get back to where they were within a few weeks.
Drop your host though and move to somewhere more reliable.

Been there, and seen it exactly as MattUK describes, get a host that's reliable though, if this happens more often, chances are it will break your rankings.

You are safe untill search engine crawler visits your site. If it visits when your site is down then definately that will effect your SERPs

Yes, they do. If your server's been down for a week, then you can almost be certain...

Tip to prevent this from happening in the future: Host important sites on multiple servers simultaneously.

You don't realy need to go through the trouble of doing that, just make sure your host backs up the sites and above all use a reputable host.

ok so its been 4 days since my forums have been down, but i put all my html pages on another server and those are working,

so out of the 3K pages that are chached....20 are html pages that are hosted up after 3-4days, but the forums wont be up back again till 1 week :(

will the html pages save me from being unindexed?

No, indexing will work on a page by page basis rather than as a site.

Not happened to me in past.

But i am sure it could happen in future because Search Engines are facing whole load of new webpages and they have limitation of displayed only same number of result pages mostly 10.
So any change on your side can easily trigger big change on their side.

Be very very careful now days.

If your servers are down for a long time, crawlers won’t be able to access your site. Your site's SERP is come down.

it depends if Google spiders your site often or not...If your site gets spidered quite frequently most likely your serps will drop but you will gain it back quickly again if the bot spiders often....If this is the case I would not worry about it cause it will bounce back again quickly if the above is the case...In the case it does not spider your site often then if you were unlucky and the bot went to your site when site was down, that means you may have to wait a long time before your site is up again...So it all depends on which category you belong to....

Yes, it really affects SERP ranking. But it depends if search engines always crawls on your page it will affect your SERP. You must solve your server problem right away to prevent it from happening. :D

thanks. The mine was I big problem with a big down (more than 10 days) due to.. burocracy  and could not point the nameserver. Accordling to google webmaster account the bot crawls every 3 days, but I think that i crawls more often (the website has more than 30K linkback, more than 30k pages indexed accodlying to site: www. mysite. it) is listed in dmoz, etc.). But after 20 days since the first crawl after back online it si still not on serp, except searching the name of the site :(

Yes, if its unaccessible, it will be gradually removed from the index.
