Does your Hosting location influence your traffic ?

    Hi,

Does the hosting location of your server make a difference on who you are trying to attract to your site.

My site is hosted in Ireland and I think most of my traffic seems to be coming from Ireland and the UK.

Should I host my site in the US maybe to attract more global visitors.

At the moment I get around 50 visits a day.

    Should I move

    Thanks
    :eek::p;)

I do experience the same thing too. I tried hosting in my local hosting service and most of my visitors are around my country's region. Shifted to a US host and the visitors segmentation changed to more global. Anyone have any findings on these to share?

Is it a .com or country extension domain?

I don't think the website's physical location plays a huge role in traffic other than the locals having a faster internet connection.

The USA and established European countries are pretty good central points for all internet users of the world.

Google's geo-targetting works on both server location as well as domain TLD (i.e. if your site is .co.uk & hosted in the UK, then G's algorithm naturally gives you a boost in local SERPs).

    Not 100% true.
This depend on your site targeted audience.
If you targeted US,but your site is hosted at UK.
Your main visitor will be US

Where you're hosted plays a small part - in the absence of Google being able to use any other information as to where your site is targeted

Yea it should not matter where you are hostet. If you are hoster locally you will have a faster connection then being hosted overseas. I am hosted in Canada and get traffic from all over the globe.

no it's doesn't matter that if you are hosting your sites in uk or Ireland.
and you wants traffic from US maybe to attract more global visitors.
so if you really wants US visitor you can go for some banner advertising of popular USA sites.
or go for some group posting of specific region so you can get that area traffics as well.
and also posting your site in SMO/Social bookmarking sites which is very famous so you can get some good amount of traffic for your site.

but once again it's doesn't matter that if you are hosting your sites in uk or Ireland.
