if i went to yahoo answers and answer questions to a relative topic of my own website (obviosuly answering them good.. no spam!)... and put my link in the sources box.. would that benefit my website in any way?

They stopped allowing clickable links a few days ago. And if you put your site in too many of the answers they mark that site as spam and you can't do it any more. :(

But until you get your site blocked from answers, yeah its good. I guess you might be able to stick a tinyurl in there perhaps.

Google used to but yahoo answers forced them to close down. netscape.com has one hidden somewhere. And then tech-tips.com has opportunities. Come to think of it, any technical or other forum would have an opportunity to just jump in and plug sites.

P.S. are your links showing up as clickable links in yahoo right now? Just keep going to see how long you last I am curious.

I didn't know they didn't allow clickable links anymore. When did they stop allowing it? That's going to screw over a lot of people making good money from yahoo.

Well Yahoo has like 90% of the answers market right now. And they stopped allowing clickable links last week while I was spamming my sites on them, I freaked out thinking at first they had just banned MY links from being clickable but evidently that was a systemwide policy.

Well crap. I was doing pretty well with Answers...haven't been over in a while, but I was Level 2 with 74% best answers. What does it hurt to have clickable links....sheesh...jerks.

Sadly, the real jerks are the spammers that have flooded Yahoo Answers as a method to get links. Removed the links, and the spam problem is solved.

Spam is a loose loose situation for the end users though, and that is a sad thing.

I've used it a few times myself, and have used links, but when I did put my own links in, I would often read the question, then write a related article, and then point to as a source. Heh, that way it was more in line with actually helping, rather then just getting a link back. Or have used an existing article.

Though, while I was in there, I did see several links pointing to things that had nothing to do with the question.

(now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you are/were a spammer, I'm just giving my two cents on the matter)

Yahoo answers is something of a pain. I've had to fight them on multiple occasions due to giving too much info.

You have 2 problems: #1 - the top contribs want to keep their spots and will flag posts who are getting up there

#2 - general stupidity. Yahoo's policy is that you can't really give answers related to anything you might know about. I'm serious, read the stuff!

I sent them an email with a quote from their own TOS. Just a friendly question after being banned for the 3rd time (no URL's in my post, no sales of any sort at all). That was about 2 months ago and I have yet to hear back.

What's really funny about this is that I now answer questions WAY out of my field, put in my URL and I have yet to have a problem.

I do SEO, but I'm in the "how do I get her to call me back" section.

By doing it this way I'm building up my stature, getting a few links to my page (not every post).

Not a fan of the site, but the fact of how it works is far too funny to just let it sit.

yeah i noticed that... i kinda got the impression that people who ask and answer the questions are just doing it for the hell of it.. like they have nothing better to do... i answer same question over and over... mainly "how do i get music on my ipod"... i wish google still had thier Q&A section back...

Where are you guys putting your links on Yahoo Answers?

The URLs I put in the "source" box are still clickable.

    Thanks,
    Scott

The links were not clickable a few days ago. This was a tecnical glitch which has been fixed. Makes more than half the posts in this thread redundant.

As an example, here's a question asked approximately 40 minutes before this post:
    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/i...YrnMyB6.xQt.;_ylv=3?qid=20080214042037AAptVlQ

The first answer has a link under Sources, which is where one should in theory put in links when answering. If you scroll down a little, you will see an answer with a BBC link. This was pasted straight in the answers part rather than the Source part.

Seriously don't waste your time with Yahoo answers! It's a great site but Yahoo will ban your account very quick if you start posting links about.

There are other easier, quicker and safer ways to get traffic to your website!

I disagree. If done correctly, you have at your disposal a targetted audience who will visit your site. Obviously, bans will occur if you abuse the system.
My record getting traffic from Yahoo answers, was approximately 30K visitors in a period of a month from one question. I still get about 20-30 visits from that question now. Targetted traffic pays well.
