themes can make a big difference, esp if you have one which is poorly coded as that can have a negative effect. the best seo theme on the market today is probably thesis but it is pretty pricey and needs quite a lot of customisation when first installed

I just went and checked the NEW default theme (Twenty Ten) and it correctly changes H1. This is the theme that comes with WP 3.0, for the record.

So … yeah, Kubrick (which was added to WP in 1.5 so we’re talking February 2005) was old and bad for SEO, but with 2010, they’re fixing it :)

This is a case of ‘WP had a bad default theme, but it’s a theme issue.’

I will agree it’s WP’s ‘fault’ for putting out a poorly SEO designed default/example theme.

There are some themes are better SEO optimized than others, but of course you can optimize the themes yourself / add more plug-ins for example.

Everyone has the wrong end of the stick here. SEO as everyone should know the term here is infact all to do with the content backlinks and what not. I am no expert but i am an expert in wordpress. Sure there are features / plugins etc that add functionality to wordpress to help with seo. Such as url rewrite excerpt, keywords,

But the way all of you previously have been thinking what are the most seo friendly themes. There is no such term. Anyone who wants to argue such has no knowledge what so ever and please no thesis lovers even answer this post.

I say no thesis loves reply because thesis has become a marketing tool for being apparently the best seo friendly theme. Which btws is total nonsense i have seen better themes . They do offer extensive list of functions that allow better management and more control over content and seo terms such as link url reqwrites i believe.

A theme is visually / structurally how wordpress should look. Yes you must use the appropriate tags but thats another matter. But essentially a theme is nothing to do with what you all think it does.

A theme i stress again is first and foremost the barebones structure of a wordpress site. How information is displayed and what not is ultimately up to the user and how the theme is setup.

The content etc is what you all should be focusing on. Not is a theme seo friendly. I canot see why this is an issue.

IE an example of what you are all saying in essence.

Why does html + css need to be seperate in theory (practice)

The answer is simple presentation should be split from the structure of the website. I stress again the theme has nothing to do to a certain degree with seo.

Also i again say that there are ways to improve seo but only ever so slightly . The content is ultimately what mattes.

Yes, the theme can mean a lot towards optimizing your site. Here are some of the things that I look for in a theme.

Meta description - a lot of themes do not have the meta description. If you want it, you might have a edit the theme and add it manually.

Title - do you want the site title before or after the article title? I like my article title to be before the site title - so I have to manually edit the theme.

Title or alt tag in header image - does the site give the header image a title or does it use the alt text?

Footer - can you add category links in the footer of the page, or is the footer a fixed height?

I've used a couple of different Wordpress themes so far. Some of them are said to be much much better when it comes to SEO, but sincerely, looking to the code, there is no difference. The only thing you must keep in mind is that at least get a good free theme, that doesn't mess up the code. Everything else is on you. Make sure you properly use <h> tags and keywords! That's about it. And do a lot of testing to see what is for the best.

I just want to let you know what happened to a friend of mine. Stay away from some of those free wordpress theme sites. He got some....looked into the code when he installed it and found a pile of porn links throughout the theme. Just a word of caution that's all.

Yes, it matters as some themes are more optimized compared to others. When I say more optimized, they have proper using of tags.

Wordpres does a good job of SEO, such as creating a nice inner structure of pages.

Backlinking is way more important though.

don't worry at all for this issue word press themes are already SEO friendly....and there are lots of word press and third party plugins by which you can make your word press website more SE friendly...like you can add meta tags to ur post and pages.....you can add Google analytics code as well and lots more.......or you can consult any good internet marketing vendor like ASearchOnline.com to get better ideas on SEO.....i personally found nothing better than word press, only thing you need to work on is unique content for your website....
