I have used once and not succeed yet. I have observed and found many success word of mouth marketing are come from their own products / content that attractive enough from the beginning. It would be hard to use word of mouth marketing for any plain and common products / content. This is a logic - If you were them, would you interest your own content / products? Be honest and you would found the answer.
Works well with our company. Our one website only gets organic hits and word of mouth traffic. No paid advertising ever done.
We try hard to maintain top notch service so this helps with word of mouth but we also offer referral discounts to existing customers
It works especially when you are a sociable person and have lots of friends. It great for people who are outspoken and have those kind of qualities of been comfortable with new person even at the first time of meeting. I have been able to recruit a few people using that kind of method. Thou i know of a friend who is very good at that. Personally, am an introvert and prefer strictly online thing. John
Word of mouth is always a great way of getting new clients. It has worked for me... And I think that when you compensate people for referring others it works even better! That is why we have such a successful Referral Program.
Give people a reason to link to your site or recommend your site to others and the word of mouth will kick in. I get lot's of traffic from word of mouth but not as much as i'd like. Everybit of free extra advertising helps.
