I want to make a site for webmasters, similar to DP, but not really. It will have helpful webmaster tools, informational articles, tutorials, free downloads and a forum. Would this type of site make any money because webmasters obviously know what google ads look like and might not want to click as much as 13 year olds on a myspace resource site? Are there any high earning keywords associated with web development besides domain and hosting related ones? I want to make this site, but if no one will ever click ads it might not be worth the time and effort. Can someone shed some light on this subject? Anyone own a website for webmasters? Thank you.
To build a successful website in this niche I would say your main goal shouldent be profit, if you make useful tools or provide helpful information then people will come. More traffic means more potential revenue. Generally I would say webmasters tend to click less on ads but thats just based on my personal experience. There are lots of webmaster keywords that pay well, for example, SEO & Programming - you just have to do a little research.
Agreed, webmaster related topics hot items and there are tons of sites out there related to them. The trick is to provide something unique that will allow you to separate yourself from the other guys. As Venturefox suggested, research is key, find a niche within this niche your comfortable with and concentrate on making that useful. If others find your topics useful revenue will simply be a by product of that.
Being a designer myself I think web design might be good as it pays well and I know a lot about it. I do have a great idea for a site that would be focused around domains. Im not as interested in this, but I have better ideas.
I would like to add on to what the others have said. You can certainly use this to your advantage..Webmaster's know what adsense is..And i like to think many are like myself and supportive of others. If you site provides helpful tools and information to webmaster's they will probably be glad to click your add's to support you..just my 2 cents
I would guess affiliate programs would work much better. I don't click adsense ads but a well written review of a product might tempt me to buy something. Just remember webmasters know all the tricks so don't hide the affiliate link and probably say that it is one. Webmasters are probably more willing to forgive an affiliate link if its well done. Midwestmerchants: clicking to support the site devalues the adsense program for everyone, if everybody thought this way than adwords wouldn't convert into sales, advertisers wouldn't use adwords, and publishers therefore would get paid less for adsense. Further, you run the risk of getting the publiser smartpriced which would damage his income severly.
I have been strongly debating whether to use affiliates through clickbank instead of adsense. I have had the idea of making a site with reviews on actual quality webmaster tools and ebooks. This site would probably come off more as a blog or even a landing page and not the webmaster help center I had imagined though. Anyone else have any input?
Make sure you find a good niche. The amount of websites on webdesign is tremendous. Your position is one that is very common. A webmaster will generally know most about webdesign and thus write about that.
